How does the "maximum bid" work?

When you enter a bid significantly higher than the current highest bid, the system will automatically bid for you in increments up to your maximum bid.
This allows you not to have to be online when the auction ends. The amount bid on your behalf will be the minimum needed to outbid competing bidders.

For example, if the current highest bid is 1,000 yen and you have a maximum bid of 2,000 yen, then a bid of 1,100 yen will automatically be placed for you.
If someone else bids 1,500 yen, then a bid of 1,600 yen will be placed for you, and so on.
If someone bids 2,100 yen, then an email will automatically be sent informing you that you have been outbid.
